Showcase Results

I just got home from cheering on Davison athletes at showcase. The grade 4s should be very proud of themselves. They all tried their very best and looked like they were having fun. Kylie took home a bronze medal and Makayla took home a silver in shot put. It was neat to see these girls smiling proudly on the podium!

Our Mini Field Trip!

On May 3 we loaded a school bus at 1:00 pm for our mini field trip.  We were very excited to be headed to City Hall.  We were greeted by Mayor Streelasky who took us to his office.  He showed us a picture of Charles Melville Hayes, the man Melville was named after.  Mr. Hayes was the president of the railway company at the time and died on the Titanic.
After visiting his office he took us into the Counsellor's Chamber.  This room is where the counsellors and mayor meet to decide on rules and laws and make decisions for Melville.  Mayor Streelasky said they meet every Monday night for two to three hours.
We got to pretend like we were counsellors and the mayor and sat in their chairs at their desks.  We talked about and debated on different issues like if Davison School should have uniforms and if kids under 12 should have a curfew.
Afterwards, Mayor Streelasky took us on a tour of the City Hall.  Shanicia sang O'Canada on the stage in the opera hall (and then we all joined in) to show us the amazing acoustics of the building.  We looked at pictures from past mayors and counsellors and heard the bell from the HMS Melville ship.  We went downstairs where the jail used to be and Mayor Streelasky told us that people think there might be a time capsul buried in the walls of the basement.  They are going to use xrays to see if it is really there before they start chipping away at the walls!
We all got a pin from Mayor Streelasky before heading to the public library!
Nerissa greeted us at the public library.  She talked to us about different areas of the library.  She let us all look for books.  When we were done looking for books and checking them out, we played a searching game in the library.  We looked for the different kinds of books based on their stickers on the spines.
Overall we had an awesome time!  Our mini-field trip was fun and informative!

Showcase Meet

The Grade 4 students should be very proud of themselves.  Everyone did very well for their first indoor standards track and field meet.  We are especially proud of Aaron, Cassie, Makayla, Kylie, Spencer and Anteneh who all qualified for the "Showcase" meet in Yorkton this Saturday.  It starts at noon and will run all afternoon.  If you are interested in checking it out and cheering them on, there is no cost to attend and it is located in the Flexihall at the Gallagher Centre in Yorkton!
